2012 Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy Photo Competition

Now in its third year, the Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy (FOPB) Photography Competition gives photographers an opportunity to gain important visibility for their work and win valuable prizes. The Competition is open to all photographers (both amateur and professional) of all ages. There are separate categories for Youth, High School Students and Adults so everyone has an opportunity to compete at an appropriate level. Winning entries will gain public exposure through publicity, a gallery exhibition and may also be features in FOPB photo note cards and Phenology Calendar.

  • Youth, HS and Adult winners will each receive $100 (donated by the Picture Salon)

  • Possible inclusion in note cards and calendar

Board Choice Award (one only)

Who May Enter

All photographers of all ages and all levels are welcome!

Photographers may enter the contest in any one of three categories:

YOUTH: Age 14 or younger (and not in High School)

HIGH SCHOOL: Age 14-18 (and/or currently in High School)

ADULT: Age 19 or older

Individuals affiliated with Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy, including employees, board members, seasonal staff, and their immediate families (children or spouses) are not eligible to enter.

This contest is not available in countries, states, or provinces where rules translation, registration, or bonding are required, and is void where prohibited.

How to Enter

We invite everyone who is passionate about photography and nature to enter the Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy Annual Photography Competition. You must read the following rules, terms, and conditions before submitting any photos!

To participate, all you have to do is set up an account on our competition registration site and select the FOPB competition. An email confirmation will be sent to the email address affiliated with your account. Follow the online instructions to upload and submit images. Once you are registered, you may log back onto the site and submit additional images at any time until the final deadline of August 1, 2012.

Entrance Fees

YOUTH and HIGH SCHOOL: $5 per image.

ADULT: $25 for first three images. $10 per additional image.

Image Format

Images will only be accepted in digital form with entries made through our online entry site. To enter, your images must meet the following specifications:

  • JPG format (saved with compression level 7 or higher)
  • 72 ppi resolution
  • 1,280 pixels on the longest side
  • sRGB or Adobe RGB color space
  • 8-bit mode (layers flattened)
  • File size less than 2MB

Finalists will be asked to submit a high-resolution file sized to 8.5" x 11" at 300ppi. We reserve the right to disqualify contestants who are unable to provide a high-resolution file.

How do I convert my image into the required size to submit?

If you do not have the computer software to convert the image into submission size your local FedEx Office does provide photo editing software on their public computer. They have knowledgeable staff that can assist you to get your images into competition submission size.

Exhibition Requirements

Winners will have the opportunity to have their work exhibited in a professional gallery setting. To participate, winners must provide one exhibition print of each winning image. For complete details, please click on the “Exhbit, reception and art sale information” link below.
